Simple acts of love

Updated: Jul 29, 2019

Contemplating the simple pleasure of hanging out washing on a sunny windy day. No rush to do anything else, just listening to the sheep bleet, the birds chatter and the wind rustling the leaves. And as I hang up each bit of laundry thinking how much I love that person. This somewhat boring and mundane task seems to be so woven with love to me.

I once told someone that hanging the washing on holiday had been the best part of the day. She looked at me in utmost horror and confusion. I explained that standing in the middle of nowhere, in the sun, hands folded round my six month bump, with only the sounds of nature was rather heavenly. As I hung up the tiny dresses of my perfect one year old daughter or even my husbands underwear, my stomach would tighten with love for them and this task felt a simple act of service, that showed a tiny glimpse of the immense love I felt for each of them. She looked back blankly and I stopped talking, feeling sadder for both her and her children.

Never under estimate the simple tasks you do for those who love you or those you love, so many people never know this quiet, powerful love but we all deserve it.
